“Looks like a specimen jar,” quietly shuddered Han. She activated a stable magnetic field around her before she opened the container. For a second, there was a slight bluish glow that looked as if it emanated from her skin. The field would keep any atmospheric contaminants from harming her, and also protect any samples from her bacteria. The field could only be used for short periods, since it also blocked the passage of air and sound.
She scanned it with a contact lens in her left eye, which fed information into her implant. The small rush of air, when she deactivated the field blew a strand of red hair into her eyes. She pushed it back. “It has some DNA residue. This is what I’m looking for.”
“Would it be acceptable for me to scan, Geneticist Han?” The vocalizations from the Dusa translators were always so measured and sounded almost reverent, but during those rare times when they were seen communicating with their own, they appeared familiar to the point of what Han’s people would term crassness.
